Dear Art Lovers,
We would like to take this space to introduce you to us and our art initiative – Monsoon Canvas. Here is our story…
The origins - Europe - 1998-2006
During our life in Berlin, one of the major art capitals of Europe, we travelled the length and breadth of the continent visiting ancient cities, opulent palaces and spacious aesthetic city squares. Art in Europe is basic literacy and while living there it only natural to develop a passion for it.
Thus started our journey to the discovery of the great masters that determined western art, we naturally gravitated towards paintings. Well documented and preserved art literature, museums and forums provided us the platform to understand the styles, history and context in which the paintings originated. As art aficionados we have had numerous interactions with artists, art lovers and art promoters. This propelled us to get involved in art on as daily basis which defined our origins.
The idea - India - 2006
On return to India in 2006, we discovered a lacuna in art appreciation and art promotion. There is a noticeable lack of sincerity in the promotion of art. Most of the business of art that takes place is purely for pecuniary gains and very far from the true spirit of art promotion. Art is currently treated as a commodity trade rather than a product of human creativity. Promotion involves education of the public and also dedication to the artists that are being promoted.
This is where we saw the opportunity and thus started the promotion of selected eminent Indian artists. This was the beginning of Monsoon Canvas.
The fruition - Monsoon Canvas – the online Indian art gallery - 2009
Having tested our promotion model for 3 years we felt the time was right to expand our efforts to a larger group of artists. The result is the online Indian art & paintings gallery - Monsoon Canvas.
We aim to restrict the number of artists promoted so as to actively promote them to a larger audience. This, we believe would be a targeted and much more dedicated approach. The eminent artists are chosen for their talent and investment worthiness and our dedicated promotion is bound to increase their reach. This in turn will benefit the clients who acquire artworks from us, as they can be assured that somebody is working on their behalf to increase the value of their purchase and also acquire new talented works.
The Promoters
Rama is an accomplished business woman, who has lived and travelled, in various parts of the world. Being a trained classical musician, her sense of perception of the arts has been systematically trained from a very young age. Having returned to India after a 8 year stint in Germany and having experienced the art landscape in Europe Rama quickly realized the gaps in the art promotion model here. This realization led to the formation of Monsoon Canvas along with her husband.
Thomas’ interest in art started at a very young age, being very keen in drawing. Thomas’ passion for the arts was furthered fueled during his life in Germany where art was accessible to all, being a part of their lives. He is well read on all matters of art both Western and Indian and is currently on a journey to bring art to every person’s life. He believes schools are the most effective medium to bring about consciousness in the society to appreciate paintings.
Both Rama and Thomas are alumni of the Humboldt Universitaet zu Berlin.
